| The days are just flying by, Christmas will be here before we know it! It always seems like the more exciting the holiday, the fast it comes and goes, filled with all the things that need to be done to prepare for it all. Its funny because as a kid, it takes FOREVER to come. As you get older, it seems to press on you like a steam engine with no breaks. Its a very exciting time of year for Lily Lane Cakes. We have grown by leaps and bounds in the last few months and it doesn't seem like there is any stopping us! God willing, we will be bricks and mortar in the new year. I wanted to lastly, thank everyone for the amazing support through this year. Its been a bumpy road getting out there, but we are really making it after all (as Mary Tyler Moore would say) Its only with the help and support of our friends and family that we can get our cakes out there. I also wanted to thank my awsome and amazing assitant Carrie for all her help. Its not a glory filled job with benefits, but it definately keeps you on your toes. Carrie has helped me keep from falling off mine. With luck and prayers, this coming year will see us all moving on into a better economy. We wish you and your families a Happy Holiday and prosperous and healthy New Year!!! -- Kathy Mingledorff Lily Lane Cakes www.LilyLaneCakes.com Kathy@LilyLaneCakes.com 703-507-0609 Leave a reply? |

11.19.2008 07:13 AM |
| Its true really! I am not lying. Cupcakes make you feel all warm and cozy. Its a little peice of sweet happiness in a handheld wrapper. What could be any better? Did I mention that cupcakes are small cakes, therefore they have no calories??? Ok... that is stretching it, but I will keep telling myself that. So the cold weather is charging forth as we have our coldest day of the year so far. This morning its in the 20's, yikes! Grab the mittens and scarves. So to help you warm up, we have our lovely holiday offerings. In Falls Church at Stacy's there is Pumpkin Pie Cupcakes, Peary Good (really guys, this is a great cupcake) and Red Velvet. Pair em with a hot latte and your set. At Bernie's in Fairfax, there are Red Velvet, Pumpkin Pie and Chocochippety Cup Cupcakes. While Bernie's has great coffee, their claim to fame is thier corned beef. I can attest to these sandwhiches, they are AMAZING! A hot sandwich on a cold day really hits the spot. So stop into one of the locations and of course, get your holiday orders in as soon as possible, cut off for holiday flavors of cake or cupcakes for Thanksgiving is November 24th. If you order a 8" cake or 2 dozen cupcakes or more, enjoy a 10% discount on us, Happy Holidays! Leave a reply? |

Wow, what a weekend.. MCES 2008 |
11.10.2008 03:28 PM |
| Ok, so its over! We went crazy prepping for the event, and the weekend was pretty amazing. For an itty bitty company Lily Lane Cakes jumped in kicking and screaming EVEN THOUGH Washington Post's Cupcake Wars winners- Georgetown Cupcake decided to grace the scene. Whatever, that's fine, more cupcakes for everyone. But Georgetown Cupcake didn't have a 200 pound Turkey cake that was executed on Sunday and served to the masses. Franklin the turkey was made of 200 pounds of chocolate and vanilla cake, vanilla buttercream icing and marshmallow fondant as well as gumpaste extras. We served abot 2/3'ds of Franklin and the rest was munchies for the staff breaking down the show. It was ALOT of cake. On Sunday I got to meet Paula Deen (without my camera, IDIOT!) and told her about my 3 foot tall turkey cake and she said "Oh my Gaaaawd!" She was soo nice even though she was in a rush to get to her show, it was a pleasure to meet her. It was far from an easy weekend to prep for but it was a great time and I wanted to thank everyone who helped us get out there and worked on the day of the show. Thanks SO much to Carrie, my assistant, my great friends- Yvonne, Chris, Jennifer, Vanessa and Claudia. It was Lily Lane's real public debut, but there is so much more to come! Check out the Gallery for new pictures coming from the show including the execution of Franklin! This week at Stacey's: Red Velvet, Citrus Sunshine and Chocolate w/ vanilla buttercream, This week at Bernie's Deli in Fairfax City: Red Velvet and Citrus Sunshine Leave a reply? |

Fall? Welcoming it with open arms.... |
9.18.2008 04:28 AM |
| Hi there all: It looks like fall is fast approaching which you can of course deduce by the fact that the stores are all selling Christmas stuff. Man... can we just get through one season at a time?! Well to honor my very favorite time of the year, we have a season retiree as well as two stars. Retiring for the season is Pretty N' Pink. As you know, we use fresh ingredients, locally as possible. Of well... strawberries just do not grow from Sept- whenever. So to replace that marvelous cupcake are a tag team of fallness- The Pumpkin Pie and Adam's Apple Cupcakes. They are making thier spicey debut this week at Stacey's so stop by for a Pumpkin Latte and tastey treat, preferably a cupcake! Hump Day... |
9.10.2008 06:18 AM |
| Hi All: Happy Hump Day. Only a few more days and we are back to a weekend. Hopefully it will be a little calmer than it was last weekend. We had the impact from what was Hurricane Hannah in our neck of the woods in Springfield. I was a busy bee decorating the second coming of Indiana Jones and hardly noticed how bad it was until... power went out. I had to finish the cake by candle light, literally. But all was good, the birthday boy was happy and that is what really matter! After the storm we headed out to eat since we were without power to find that the park surrounding our neighborhood looked much more like water water rapids than calm creeks it had once been. Major road ways were flooded and two baseball feilds under 5 feet of water! It was pretty crazy. I hope everyone was safe through the storm and is doing well on this lovely week. With a wedding cake for this weekend- pray for clear weather! Lily Lane Cakes is offering a few new things at Stacey's in addition to cupcakes. So stop by and check out the AMAZING German Chocolate cake sold by the slice (call for orders of whole cakes) and decorated sugar cookies, for the kids or kid in you :) This Weeks Flavors at Stacey's: (By popular demand) Chocochippety Cup and Citrus Sunshine Leave a reply? |

This Week in Cupcakes.... |
9.2.2008 11:14 AM |
| Thankfully, Gustav did not make as big an impact as it was feared. Hopefully all the residents of Louisiana that evacuated can make their way back home soon, including the wonderful David, webmaster extraordinaire. Well... its official- the kids are back to school. For us here- that means that Lily and her big brother Alex are back at school. For Lily its her first day in Kindergarten which she is very proud of. For everyone else, good luck back at school, and parents...on one... two.... three... collective sigh of relief. Alright.. with that said, Cupcakes. Be sure to drop in to Stacey's to pick up a fresh cupcake, if you need more than one, or one for the road, be sure to ask them for a Lily Lane box to transport your precious cargo. If you need for than a few, feel free to give me a call or e-mail. | Summer is over- boo, hoo! As all teachers, this one is not happy to have to return to the working world. However, a cupcake and a cup of coffee do make the day go by faster! Wanting to try the apple ala mode and hoping that you will create one for Halloween/Thanksgiving with pumpkin. Had a slice (okay, two slices) of a pumpkin bread topped off with something sweet and crumbly, very yummy, but I thought you could do better! Can't wait to hear of any new additions! Claudia |

Hurricane Gustav- Thoughts and Prayers! |
9.1.2008 04:41 AM |
| I just wanted to send a little message out about Hurricane Gustav approaching the Louisiana Coast. My wonderful webmaster- David's family lives in New Orleans. We first "met" when he did the web page for the non-profit I founded- Preemies Today (www.preemiestoday.com). We were working on the design of the website after Hurricane Katrina had struck New Orleans. David's company and all the reidents in NO, were in such great need, after looking at his work the board of Preemies Today knew he was the right choice. So three years later, I knew exactly who I wanted working on my website for Lily Lane Cakes. David has evacuated his family out of New Orleans and are hopefully safe for the time being. But I wanted to send my thoughts and prayers to all those who may be effected by Gustav. We hope that the speed will decrease and the hurricane downgrade. Leave a reply? |
